As part of plans to electrify its 170-strong fleet of vehicles, Warburtons has taken delivery of its first Yutong TE7 7.5-tonne electric truck.

Supplied by Pelican Electric Trucks, the first of seven TE7s ordered has entered service from the bakery’s Wakefield depot, delivering fresh products to stores across Yorkshire. The second vehicle is due to join the fleet shortly.

Steven Gray, head of transport at Warburtons, said: “We are delighted to see the first of our Yutong TE7 trucks arrive and to begin putting it to work.

“We have worked closely with the team at Pelican throughout the trial process, and the vehicle has demonstrated that electric can be a practical solution for our operational requirements.”

The new vehicles expand Warburtons’ battery-electric fleet, which has been in operation since 2021, complementing the company’s existing fleet of CNG tractors as part of its decarbonisation strategy.

In 2024, Warburtons purchased its first electric vans, with the two Renault E-Tech Masters located at Enfield and Bristol.

The same year, four electric Renault E-Tech D16 trucks joined the bakery brand’s fleet following the successful deployment of its first 16 tonne electric truck in Enfield.

These vehicles are part of Warburtons secondary fleet and deliver fresh bakery products direct to stores across the country. They operate from Warburtons’ bakeries in Enfield, Glasgow, Bristol and Bolton.

Earlier this year, the Bolton-founded business reported an operating profit of £43.2 million, up from £33.3 million the year before. The bakery giant credited a wider category range for a 4.2 per cent volume growth in 2025.

As it celebrates its 150th anniversary, the bakers championed its premium range of wrapped loaves, crumpets and sourdough bagels for this growth. Its has even entered the frozen convenience category for the first time, through a new licensing partnership with Food Brands Now.
