Tesco is offering free delivery on selected dates during the World Cup matchdays to support football fans with last-minute essentials for hosting at home.

Customers who are ordering deliveries over £25 during the promotional period will automatically receive free delivery.

The free Whoosh delivery applies to orders placed on 11, 15 and 19 July, followed by an entire week during 20 to 26 July.

Whoosh is the supermarket’s on-demand grocery delivery service which offers a range of items from local stores in as little as 20 minutes.

The retailer is expected to sell over four million packs of crisps and nuts, 2.7 million lagers and over one million packs of barbecue meat, as well as 800,000 packs of ice cubes ahead of England’s game on Saturday.

Additionally, the supermarket is launching deals for the weekend, including half-price for a 12-pack of Peroni Nastro Azzurro beer lager bottles, down from £20.00 to £10.00.

The traction around the World Cup tournament has led to nearly one in five kids’ books sold by Tesco over the summer being football themed.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Excitement is building across the country with customers enjoying the summer weather, hosting gatherings, and getting involved in the build-up to England’s crucial match. This is expected to be one of our busiest weekends this year.

“Last Sunday also saw one of the busiest ever days for Tesco Whoosh deliveries as customers chose rapid grocery deliveries to help them enjoy the England game and get what they needed in as little as 20 minutes. We expect to see high demand again as we’re removing delivery charges tomorrow and for future game dates.”
