Sainsbury’s celebrate opening of renovated flagship in Kent
Sainsbury’s opened a new flagship store following a major renovation to its location in Tonbridge, Kent, yesterday.
The retailer made a multimillion-pound investment to transform the location into a larger superstore for customers as part of its expansion plans to reach more people across the UK.
The store was expanded to approximately 25,000 sq ft larger than before and features Sainsbury’s latest supermarket format designs with an additional 17,000 products.
Additionally, Sainsbury’s increased the space for food by 30 per cent and has a larger produce section with fresh fruit and veg as well as a new sushi gourmet counter.

The supermarket retailer first started renovations for the store in July 2025, which include an upgraded Argos and improved kiosk.
Samantha Epps, Sainsbury’s Tonbridge store manager said: “I’m thrilled that I’ve had the opportunity to lead the fantastic team at Sainsbury’s Tonbridge throughout its transformation.
“We’ve been working hard for the last nine months to support the expansion of the supermarket while also keeping as much continuity as possible for our customers.
“Sainsbury’s has served the Tonbridge community for more than 100 years, and we’re excited to play an even bigger role in the town for many more years to come from our exciting new store.”
The place also has a new home and clothing department as well as a dedicated beauty department.
