Aldi targets Cadbury’s in 40,000 mini chocolate eggs giveaway

News

Aldi is giving away 40,000 packs of its Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs this Easter as it looks to build on growing buzz around the product.

Shoppers can enter to win a £5 voucher, enough to buy five packs of the retailer’s 74g mini chocolate eggs, by emailing Aldi before 27 March.

The giveaway follows a wave of social media attention around the product, with Aldi’s version winning praise from shoppers for both taste and value. In one TikTok video that has attracted more than 740,000 views, influencer @BeccaEatsEverything described the eggs as “incredible” and said they would be difficult to distinguish from Cadbury’s if served unlabelled.

Aldi said the promotion also comes after it grabbed attention last week by handing out free Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs to visitors outside Cadbury World in Bournville, in a stunt shared across its social channels.

The supermarket is positioning the product as a lower-cost alternative to branded rivals ahead of Easter, with its 99p price point undercutting a standard £2 pack of Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “What better way to celebrate our popular Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs than by doing a huge giveaway. Our mini chocolate eggs are flying off shelves as our customers praise both the taste and value.”

The move is the latest example of Aldi leaning into both price and playful marketing as competition intensifies in the run-up to Easter.
