Aldi has increased its staff pay rates to £13.50 nationwide and £14.88 inside the M25, effective on 1 April 2026.

This move makes the discounter’s position the highest-paying supermarket in the UK, which sets a new benchmark within the grocery sector.

The rates will rise to £14.47 across the UK and £15.20 in London based on the length of service at the discount retailer.

This pay increase will benefit over 29,000 store colleagues and follows a previous wage rise which was announced in January. Aldi also extended maternity pay to 26 weeks at full pay earlier this year.

Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK & Ireland, said: “Our colleagues work incredibly hard to deliver exceptional value for our customers, and we’re rewarding that dedication with the highest pay in the sector.

“We’ve invested over £42 million in colleague pay this year because we know that every single member of Team Aldi is fundamental to our success and deserves nothing less.”

The supermarket stated it has invested £42m in colleague pay in 2026 alone, as part of its push towards becoming the industry’s pay leader.

Aldi is also the only major supermarket retailer to offer paid breaks to its staff members, which is worth approximately £1,500 per year to the average store colleague.

This announcement follows other supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, announcing rate increases for their employees.
