Co-op’s managing director Chris Conway has stepped down from the position at the convenience-store retailer after 8 years.

He joined the business in March 2018 as the director of e-commerce, after previously serving as head of online for Morrisons from 2015 to 2018.

Additionally, Conway also worked at major supermarket retailer Asda for 13 years.

Conway said on a LinkedIn post: “After 8 years, my time at the Co-op has come to an end. It’s been a privilege to help shape the evolution of our online and quick commerce proposition.

“What began as an emerging idea grew into a business of real scale — built by talented teams willing to test, learn and move at pace. I’m proud of what we achieved together, particularly in pushing established retail into faster, more agile territory.”

The new appointment comes after Co-op appointed former Lidl CEO Ronny Gottschlich to join the board as the independent non-executive director in January.

Gottschlich previously held senior executive roles for the Schwarz Group in multiple European markets.

The move was aimed at strengthening the convenience retailer’s leadership team as it executes its next business strategy for growth.
