Aldi is introducing dedicated reduction zones across all its UK stores in a move designed to make it easier for shoppers to find discounted fresh food while helping reduce food waste.

The new, clearly marked areas will feature price-cut bread, produce, and other fresh items nearing their use-by date, allowing customers to pick up quality products for less.

Items will be discounted throughout the day, with the new zones positioned prominently in-store to highlight last-minute bargains.

The initiative forms part of the discounter’s broader drive to make high-quality food more affordable and support its zero-waste ambitions, ensuring that fewer perfectly good products go unsold.

Aldi national sustainability director Luke Emery said: “Our customers already know they can rely on us to provide unbeatable value, but our new reduction areas will make it even easier to pick up a last-minute bargain.

“By creating dedicated reduction zones in store, we’re helping point shoppers towards quality food at cheaper prices, all while cutting down on food waste.”

Aldi’s food waste reduction strategy also includes partnerships with community giving platform Neighbourly, which redistributes surplus food from all UK stores daily, and Too Good To Go, where customers can buy Surprise Bags filled with items nearing their sell-by date.
