Fairtrade announces hike to minimum banana price
Fairtrade UK has announced an increase in the minimum price for bananas to support farmers’ livelihoods and promote sustainable pay in the supply chain.
The new prices will increase by between 4.6% to 6%, dependent on the country of origin, which is part of Fairtrade’s commitment to bringing in sufficient wages for employees globally.
Silvia Campos, senior advisor, banana, at Fairtrade International said: “Banana producers across main exporting countries are echoing the need for sustainable farming practices and fair pricing for securing the economic viability of banana production.

“Achieving sustainable livelihoods for farmers and workers is at the core of Fairtrade’s mission. Fairtrade’s Sustainable Banana Offer provides all actors in the supply chain a holistic approach to do their part.”
The change is set to come into effect at the start of January 2026. Additionally, the Fairtrade UK group is calling on eligible members in the supply chain to ensure that sustainable and fair wages are a part of the industry.
