This brings chickpea tofu to UK supermarkets in category first
Plant-based brand This has unveiled the UK’s first chickpea-based tofu, in what it describes as a “game-changer” in the plant-based aisle.
Launching today (24 September) in Sainsbury’s and on Ocado, “THIS is Omami Chickpea Tofu” will also roll out to Tesco from 6 October and Waitrose from 15 October, priced at £2.95 for 200g.
The range includes two marinated SKUs, Lightly Seasoned and Chilli Spiced, both soy-free, high in protein (14–15g per 100g) and naturally low in saturated fat.
Developed in partnership with German food startup Omami, the chickpea tofu is designed to offer a creamier texture than traditional soy tofu, with a crispy outside and smooth interior.

The plant-based brand added that the new products require no pressing or extra marination and can be eaten straight from the pack once cooked.
This CEO Mark Cuddigan, said the launch would be “game-changing” for the tofu category.
“This is going to be the best tofu on the market, game-changing taste and next-level texture,” he said. “We’re obsessed at THIS™ with making plant-based food that tastes delicious and delivers on nutrition too.
“Our new chickpea based tofu does exactly that and will hopefully change the way people think about tofu. Plus, there’s also zero fuss – no marinating, no prep, no blandness. Just chop, cook, and enjoy.”
Omani CEO Christina Hammerschmid added the partnership would “revolutionise the plant-based market” by combining innovation with taste.
