Mondelēz and Tesco trial Cadbury packaging with 60% less plastic

Mondelēz, the parent company of Cadbury and other snack brands, is partnering with Tesco to trial new packaging on Cadbury Crunchie multipacks, which lowers the outer plastic used.

As part of the scheme, innovative stickers will replace plastic overwraps on around 1.8m Cadbury Crunchie four bar multipacks that are sold in Tesco stores.

Joanna Dias, Mondelēz UK sustainability lead says: “We’re delighted to be announcing this Cadbury Crunchie multipack trial in the UK, which reduces the outer plastic use by 60%.

“Reducing our packaging and the use of virgin plastic are key pillars in our global ‘Pack Light and Right’ strategy, and we know that more sustainable packaging is a key concern of our consumers, which is why we are asking for their valuable feedback on the trial.”

Additionally, the sticker also has a QR code for consumer feedback as well as information on nutrition and new packaging design.

James Bull, Tesco’s head of packaging, said: “As part of our Planet Plan, Tesco is committed to reducing its packaging footprint and working with suppliers to assess the suitability of their packaging.

“This trial from Mondelēz International has the potential to drive forward change in the chocolate category, whilst supporting our mission to eliminate preventable packaging waste.”

The FMCG giant introduced a new recyclable paper-based packing solution for multipacks last year, as it aims to achieve its goals of reducing its overall plastic packaging.

    Personally think there light enough why i dont buy them .. should be called mini crunch.

    And probably even smaller after this
