Asda has brought back its well-known slogan “That’s Asda Price” in a new ad campaign aimed at reinforcing its value credentials.

The campaign, the first from agency Lucky Generals since winning the supermarket’s creative account, builds on the grocery retailer’s recent return of its “Rollback to Asda Price” initiative, which saw it cut the price of over 10,000 products.

Launching on 10 July, the 30-second TV spot, “Barnsley Baby”, features a surprising twist: a baby called Gary who suddenly delivers the “That’s Asda Price” line in a Yorkshire accent at the checkout, leaving the cashier stunned.

The supermarket chain says the advert is designed to show that “even babies know good honest value when they see it”. The advert ends with Asda’s famous ‘back pocket tap’ to indicate the change saved from the weekly shop.

Showcased across national TV, two further ads in the same style are due later this summer, with the wider campaign also running across digital, print, in-store, social and PR.

“Asda Price has always been a promise of unbeatable value, and in today’s market it’s more relevant than ever,” says Asda VP of marketing Adam Zavalis.

“Our mission continues to be the lowest price full-service supermarket in the country and our new campaign further cements our commitment to that.”

Lucky Generals CEO Cressida Holmes-Smith added: “To take a classic line such as ‘That’s Asda Price’ and give it new relevance and meaning in culture, as well as supporting Asda’s drive to make life better for hardworking families, has been a great way to kick off our relationship. And we got to have great fun along the way – giving a baby a Yorkshire accent has to be the highlight.”

Brilliant ad. So nice to see a mum actually talking to her son and not glued to a phone.
