M&S holds in-store recruitment days as cyber attack hits online hiring
Marks & Spencer is holding walk-in in-store recruitment open days to fill vacant roles while its online hiring system remains offline following its ransomware attack in April.
The move follows the retailer pausing its digital recruitment portal last month, as it announced last week that disruption from the cyber attack fallout is expected to last until early July, as IT teams continue to rebuild affected systems.
To keep hiring on track, M&S has turned to walk-in recruitment events at selected stores, reported The Grocer, with the sessions being promoted via Facebook and in-store signage, and job seekers encouraged to apply in person.

The high street retailer’s Shoreham store in West Sussex held an open day on 28 May, while Peterborough is hosting one on Wednesday 4 June between 10am and 5pm.
“There is no need to book – just turn up in between the timeframe and head to the top floor till points to get signed in and then a member of staff will help you,” the Peterborough team posted on Facebook.
In Bristol, the Cribbs Causeway store is inviting candidates to drop off CVs in person. The branch, which opened in December, has advertised “a range of great part-time and full-time vacancies available in our Food department.”
The temporary return to face-to-face recruitment comes as M&S continues to manage the impact of the cyber attack, which also affected online orders, customer data and internal systems.
