Aldi is supporting its partnership with the Marine Conservation Society by pledging to fund 125 beach cleans in 2025.

Joining forces with the marine charity, the discounter has donated £32,000 to help support the beach cleaning and litter survey project, Beachwatch, this year.

The initiative aims to tackle the UK’s coastline marine pollution. Aldi’s donation will support beach cleans across more than 25km of beaches, clearing an estimated 3,200kg of litter.

Alongside the funding, as part of the partnership, Aldi colleagues will also be taking part in two ‘Source to Sea’ litter picking events.

Data collected from Source to Sea inland litter cleans are used to track rubbish back to its source, and survey results gathered by Aldi colleagues will then be used to find solutions to ocean pollution and to campaign for the introduction of new measures.

“We’re proud to be continuing our partnership with the Marine Conservation Society and supporting the incredible work they do to protect our beaches and marine life,” said Aldi national sustainability director Liz Fox.

“By funding 125 UK beach cleans this year, we’re hoping to play a role in making a real difference to our coastlines and the local communities that enjoy them.”

Marine Conservation Society head of business engagement and partnerships Carmen Spiers added: “We’re really excited to be continuing our partnership with Aldi for another year.

“Its support with the Beachwatch programme will allow our volunteers to carry out vital beach cleans across the UK, helping us on this mission for a healthier planet by collecting crucial data on marine litter along UK coastlines.”

The new scheme follows Aldi earlier this year debuting a new own-brand Chardonnay that aims to support the removal of plastic from the ocean, as part of a partnership with sustainable wine brand The Hidden Sea.
