Aldi UK & Ireland has appointed Hayleigh Lupino as its new chief financial officer, a newly created role.

Set to take up the position later this year, Lupino joins the discounter from pub group Marston’s where she worked for more than 20 years, most recently as its CFO.

Her appointment comes amid Aldi’s investment this year of £650m in new store openings, upgrades to existing sites, and improvements to its distribution network and infrastructure.

Aldi chief executive Giles Hurley said: “Hayleigh joins our national board as we deliver our £650m investment plan this year, opening new stores and further improving our operations to continue bringing great quality products at unbeatable prices to millions of households across the UK.

“Her extensive experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow and invest in Britain.”

The senior appointment follows news last week, revealed exclusively in Grocery Gazette, that the supermarket chain was to consult over proposals to restructure some head office teams, in a move that could see up to 350 jobs cut.

It is understood that the changes will affect some roles in the buying departments, including non-food, and finance, as well as some back-office functions.
