Tesco to phase out Clubcard app ‘pay in-store’ feature
Tesco is ditching the ‘pay in-store’ feature on its Clubcard loyalty app, saying the removal is to ensure it is “able to keep bringing the best value and convenience” to customers.
The feature, formally known at Tesco Pay+, allowed shoppers using Clubcard to pay-in store via the app and collect points.
However, in an email to members, the supermarket said it had “taken the decision to remove the pay in-store feature”, with it being “phased out” between now and 7 March, The Grocer reported.

The email continued: “Any linked card details will be removed, unless you’re using them for GetGo, Whoosh, or home delivery shopping.
“So next time you’re in-store, you’ll need to pay separately after scanning your Clubcard. You can still earn points and access Clubcard Prices by simply scanning your Clubcard or app at the till.”
A Tesco spokesperson added that it “regularly reviews” its payment options and that Clubcard Prices offers would continue to be available in-store “scanning it via the Tesco App, or by adding it to your Apple or Google wallet”.
The change comes as Tesco has become the new headline sponsor for TV show Britain’s Got Talent, as it aims to promote its loyalty scheme. The Clubcard initiative will be showcased as part of an integrated campaign to celebrate 30 years of the loyalty scheme.

Clearly using bank cards linked on mobile devices such as apple and Google pay is a more joined up way forward rather than one supermarket offering a similar style of services.
I don’t know why you are dropping this serve pay + ,it is a secure way to pay in store you always have your phone with you .I always open the app when entering the store makes life easy
I found using the pay service so useful and now for some inexplicable reason Tesco have removed its use by customers. It was so easy to use now I have to use my club card and my payment separately. Why o why have they done this?
Your feedback about pay in store i understand that you go back the ‘old way’ like my card without tesco app 😢 food delivery stay the same with tesco app with my card inside tesco remove the Tesco pay + then put pay in store in all one is better now yes. now Tesco is remove pay in store i tesco app. 😢 what next for the future ? now apple wallet with tesco club card and bank card .
That is a good move especially if you are in the queue behind someone paying this way instead of having the app ready, they get the phone out when they have packed all their shopping and then decide to find app on phone, cash is king, I pay both you never know when the system is kaput and was unable to take cards.
This change by Tesco is unwelcome for OAPs like me who are at risk of dropping bank cards, leaving them at the till, or mixing up their bank card and their club cards. Pay+ has been a secure, convenient and stress free process that has been the big attraction for me to shop with Tesco and use their diesel all the time. … and I always have the app open on the phone before entering the store!!
