Sainsbury’s CMO promoted amid wider shake-up
Sainsbury’s CMO Mark Given has been promoted to an expanded role of chief marketing, data and sustainability offer, amid the supermarket’s wider personnel shake-up.
According to The Grocer, Given, who has spent 12 years at Sainsbury’s, will now oversee its data and analytics operations, including a new team function. He already leads the Nectar loyalty scheme and has been responsible for sustainability efforts for the past three years.
The move forms part of Sainsbury’s wider restructuring programme for its ‘Next Level’ strategy.

Last month, the retailer unveiled plans to shut 61 cafés and close its remaining patisserie, hot food and pizza counters, with over 3,000 jobs to be cut.
Chief executive Simon Roberts said the redundancies and closures came amid a “particularly challenging cost environment”. The changes are designed to drive faster decision making, and to bring costs down through an estimated 20% reduction in senior management roles over the next few months.
Within its senior teams, other job role changes saw Rhian Bartlett becoming chief commercial officer, while Graham Biggart is taking on the position of MD for Argos and chief strategy and supply officer.
Director of property and procurement Graham Biggart will also join the operating board as chief property officer and MD for SmartCharge.
