Co-op launches pop-up cafés to boost member-ownership
Co-op is hosting a series of pop-up cafés and local events in a bid to boost the growth of member-ownership.
The convenience retailer’s pop-up cafés will take place in city centres including Edinburgh, Cardiff and London, and are designed to help members to better understand the business they own and the ownership benefits of membership.
The initative follows the retailer launching its ‘Owned by You. Right By You’ campaign earlier this year, which demonstrated how being part of a co-operative benefits members and communities.

Group secretary and general counsel Dominic Kendal-Ward said: “Co-op is a different way of doing business. We want to work with our members, who own our business, to make co-operation itself as successful, relevant and appealing as possible.
“Co-operation is fairer and gives a voice to members and communities and can provide a solution to many of the challenges we face today; if the benefits of co-operation were better understood, everyone would want to get behind it.
“These events will provide an opportunity to show how member-owners get a say in how the business is run, save on the products and services you need and use the most, and make a difference on the issues that matter in the communities where you live.”
The news follows the retailer earlier this week expanding its opt-out savings scheme, which is designed to help colleagues build financial resilience by automatically setting aside a portion of their wages.
