Walkers has reformulated Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli, reducing the salt content by 18% to tap into growing demand from health-conscious consumers.

The change, which has been made “without any compromise on taste”, according to the crisps giant, comes as a result of seasoning reformulation and product innovation from its research and development experts at its Beaumont Park site in Leicester.

PepsiCo UK and Ireland Walkers senior marketing director Wayne Newton said: “Our experienced R&D experts have reduced Thai Sweet Chilli’s salt content by 18%, whilst also maintaining the delicious sweet and spicy flavour that people love.

“This change to our most popular flavour means that the majority of our Sensations range is now classified as non-HFSS, answering the growing demand from health-conscious consumers, without any compromise on taste.”

Thai Sweet Chilli is the latest flavour in the Sensations range to be classified as non-HFSS, joining Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn, Mature Cheddar & Chilli Chutney, and Balsamic Vinegar & Caramelised Onion.

The change also supports Walkers ambition for 50% of its snack sales to come from healthier alternatives by 2025, targeting 30% from products that classify as high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) and 20% from snacks sold in portions of 100 calories or less per packet.
