Pint-sized bottles of wine are set to debut on UK supermarket shelves from September, despite the change attracting initial scepticism from some MPs.
Business minister Kevin Hollinrake told the House of Commons that seven changes to pre-packaged wine sizes are due to be implemented on 19 September.
The move, which was first announced in December, will see the launch of a new 568ml size of wine to sit alongside the existing 200ml and 500ml sizes already available, with the minister calling it a Brexit “freedom”.
Hollinrake added the new measures were aimed at supporting the “thriving” UK wine sector and offered opportunities for “innovation and greater choice”.

Yet SNP’s Patrick Grady hit back by saying there is “little to no demand or interest for this supposedly glorious Brexit benefit”.
Business secretary Kemi Badenoch replied the change will increase consumer choice for wine.
The latest post-Brexit change comes amid the government recently introducing its Post-Brexit border checks, despite some critics claiming it will “add billions” to consumers bills over the next several years.
