Morrisons has rolled out new seated areas in its stores as it encourages weary shoppers to “stop and rest”.

A table with chairs has been introduced in store, along with a sign that reads: “Please feel free to take a break from your shopping”.

The new feature was spotted by one customer in Kent who took to social media to praise the initiative.

Morrisons replied on X: “Need to take five? We’ve put seating areas in our stores for anyone needing a break mid-shop. Sit down, have a chat and take as long as you need.”

A spokesperson told Grocery Gazette: “We’re always looking at ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers and some tell us that during a big shop, they would like the opportunity to stop and rest. The feedback from customers since we introduced it has been really positive.”

Morrisons’ move follows other supermarkets’ attempts to improve the shopping experience. Last year Central Co-op trialled ‘quiet hours’ in its stores to mark Neurodiversity Week, following Tesco’s introduction of the feature in 2021.

Pathetic. Two chairs. Usual patronising and cynical Morrisons.

Shame they don’t look after their staff in the same way

I think this is a great idea, especially for the elderly shoppers that may get tired whilst shopping. Or customers that struggle with illnesses such as pain. Amazing.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time but it just goes to show that you can’t please some people at all no matter what incentive or benefit you introduce these people would still complain even if you gave them their groceries for nothing they would probably say that it took too long to pack.

Haven’t time to sit and rest as in our shop you only have 90 mins to do your shop or you get a parking ticket

Big improvement has taken place with Take a Seat. Two plain old grey chairs now gone, replaced with 3 full colour chairs.
