Supermarkets widen Deliveroo range as it makes non-food push

News

Supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Co-op and Morrisons have extended their product ranges on Deliveroo as part of the delivery plaform’s push into non-food categories.

The app has launched ‘Deliveroo Shopping’, which see it launch in categories including toys, DIY and electricals, with ranges from supermarkets, independent retailers and specialist retailers such as DIY chain Screwfix.

Deliveroo will also introduce a new gifting feature to its app, with retailers like Boots adding an extended festive gifting range to the site.

Deliveroo chief operating officer, Eric French, said: “Deliveroo is now catering for a wider set of consumer needs and occasions.

“Just as we transformed the way people eat, we’re set to do the same to how people shop, bringing more of the local neighbourhood to people’s doors”.

Founder and CEO Will Shu, added: “We remain relentlessly focused on improving the delivery experience and providing value for money to consumers.

“I believe that this is critical to unlocking the full growth potential in our industry and I am exceptionally proud of the work our team has done in this area already.”

Earlier this month, the delivery firm won its Supreme Court case that ruled its riders are not recognised as workers as defined by the UK’s labour laws, and therefore have no rights to join a union for the purpose of collective petitioning.
