Co-op aims to bag 30% of UK online quick convenience market

Co-op is targeting almost a third (30%) of the UK online quick convenience market from store to door.

By the end of this year, the convenience retailer estimates that more than 80% of the UK population will have online access to its groceries via its online shop and with partners including Just Eat, Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Amazon Prime.

Co-op is also continuing to expand its autonomous grocery delivery partnership with Starship Technologies.

The collaboration now sees self-driving robots collecting and supplying orders in Bedford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Leeds and Greater Manchester.

The retailer’s latest ambition comes as its partnership with Just Eat is set to deliver increased online availability as it reaches almost 1,000 stores by the end of May.

“Co-op is combining physical and digital routes to market stores to further expand and grow its online reach,” Co-op eCommerce director, Chris Conway said.

Through the expansion of its quick delivery services last year, Co-op saw its online revenues grow by 24%.

Conway added that as the retailer’s stores are “located in the heart of local communities,” Co-op will “continually look to create increased flexible options online.”
