Aldi UK stores to remain open for May bank holiday and Coronation weekend

Aldi UK stores will remain open for the duration of the May bank holiday (Monday 1 May) and the King’s coronation bank holiday (Monday 8 May).

All 990 Aldi stores across the UK will remain open on Saturday 6 May, the day of the King’s coronation itself, with normal opening hours in place. Stores will also be open until 8pm on the bank holidays (1 and 8 May) in England and Wales, while stores in Scotland will be open until 10pm as usual.

The opening times of some local stores may vary, so customers are being directed to check online.

Supermarkets across the UK are embracing the extended bank holiday and coronation plans, with limited edition celebratory food and drink ranges, commemorative products and in-store celebrations, as more than two thirds (63%) of Brits are expected to attend local street parties for the event.

Despite ongoing cost-of-living pressures, 8 out of 10 Brits (83%) have said they would be happy to pay to attend a coronation street party. The average amount they were willing to contribute was £9.20 per person.

Aldi is also giving away £500 in vouchers to 10 winners of its social media competition, which looks to help communities across the UK celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

“We know how much people love to come together to celebrate special occasions, and it really is something us Brits do best,” said Aldi UK communications director, Richard Thornton.

Elsewhere, Tesco is opening its first ever pub for the King’s coronation next month – named The King in the Castle – with all proceeds being donated to the supermarket’s longstanding charity partner, youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
