Greens Retail moves into England with £200m Nisa expansion plans

Greens Retail is expanding into England as it goes national, after signing a five-year deal with Nisa worth up to £200 million.

Greens Retail currently runs 16 convenience stores across Scotland, varying in size from 2,000 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft, with £25 million annualised sales. As part of the new expansion plan, owner and managing director Harris Aslam plans to open more than 20 new stores across Scotland and in England.

The expansion plans will see the company, previously known as Eros Retail, more than double its 300 employees, creating news jobs and giving a boost to local communities as it takes its total number of staff to more than 650 by 2028.

“We’ve been working tirelessly to expand our portfolio and as we continue to grow at a tremendous pace, our overall aim is to innovate and redefine convenience retailing,” said Aslam.

“We really want to continue to push the boundaries of retail innovation to ensure each and every one of our stores is unique to the missions and needs of its shoppers. Working with Nisa allows us to do this, as well as being able to offer the strongest own-brand range, which is a huge success for us at Greens.

“This renewed agreement allows us to continue investing in new and existing stores while maximising profitability and achieving a long-term commitment and certainty,” he said.

Nisa’s flexible convenience model provides retailers with a range of more than 13,000 products, as well as access to more than 2,400 Co-op own brand products including the Co-op Core Essentials and Honest Value range.

Greens already works closely with a number of different partners, including its in-store butchery and bakery counters, Costa Express and Skwishee concessions.

Nisa head of retail Victoria Lockie commented: “At Nisa we’re passionate about being the partner of choice for retailers and wholesalers, driving mutual success and benefits.

“It’s been an absolutely pleasure working with Harris and the team since Greens’ conception and I’m proud to have watched them elevate their business and stand out from competitors in this tough market.”
