Tesco expands Whoosh delivery service to hundreds of stores

Tesco is set to roll out its rapid delivery service, Whoosh to 800 stores by the end of February.

Offering shoppers groceries in as little as 30 minutes, the leading retailer first launched the service in 2021 which has since expanded to 600 sites across the UK.

Tesco will be adding an additional 200 sites to its current line-up in the next two weeks.

While Woosh has no minimum spend, delivery is currently priced at £2.99, with an additional £2 charge for a basket totalling to less than £15.

Last year, the supermarket giant slashed its delivery prices down from £5 during the 2022 Qatar World Cup as an incentive for more customers to shop online.

Tesco’s speedy delivery service offers 80 products across categories such as fruit and vegetables, evening meals, everyday essentials including butter, milk and eggs, as well as items from its finest range and alcohol.

“Whether it’s a special date night or a cosy evening in front of the telly, mealtime moments are an important part of our day,” Tesco chief customer officer, Alessandra Bellini said.

“Though kitchen calamities can be dramatic, the research reveals that most mishaps are down to us simply not having what we need, when we need it – whether that’s a vital ingredient for a recipe, or a quick meal option when time, energy and enthusiasm are lacking.

“We want to help the nation avoid disappointing dinners and lacklustre lunches. Whatever they need, Whoosh can deliver in as little as 30 minutes.”

This expansion comes as new research by the Big 4 grocer found that 44% of shoppers wish there was a way that they could get the food they need for their meal delivered quickly and 29% said the meals they don’t prepare for don’t alway meet expectation.

In October, Tesco strengthened its partnership with tech logistics company, Stuart in a bid to shorten the delivery times of Whoosh.

Following the collaboration’s work, over 90% of online orders made through the service are delivered in less than 30 minutes and 99% within its one hour promise time.
