Waitrose and Deliveroo offer last minute Valentine’s Day oysters

Waitrose is offering its shoppers new menu items this Valentine’s Day available for last minute deliveries via Deliveroo.

For the first time, the upmarket retailer has launched oysters on the delivery platform, as sales of its Waitrose No1 Fresh Oysters are up 11% on last year.

This comes as figures from Valentine’s Day 2022 found consumers were looking to enjoy a candlelit dinner with sales of matches up 2,500%.

Deliveroo was also found to be popular for items commonly used for breakfast in bed, including avocados, strawberries, blueberries and bananas.

“Last minute romantics are set to embrace speedy deliveries this Valentine’s day,” Waitrose partner and oline merchandiser, Tom Gough said.”

“Our previous experience shows that 14 February is one of our busiest days for customers seeking out those last minute touches – from breakfast in bed to a humble box of matches – and this year we’re adding oysters to the menu to add some extra ‘pizazz’.”

This comes as Waitrose has launched its Valentine’s Day meal deal which features a starter, main meal, side, dessert and a bottle of fine wine for £20.

Running from 8 to 14 February, the supermarket is offering at least eight options per course, including meat-based, vegetarian and vegan selections available both in-stores and via Deliveroo for the first time this year.

In looking to make celebrations more sustainable for shoppers, Waitrose has also unveiled two wrap-free bouquets which look to remove unnecessary packaging and limit single-use plastic.
