Plant-based alternative meat brand This has launched a new streaky bacon product as Veganuary 2023 approaches.

The ‘Isn’t Streaky Bacon’ which is set to launch across almost 3,000 stores including in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose from January, builds on the brand’s ‘Isn’t Bacon’ with more hyper-realism.

With three seperate patent applications through the science and innovation behind the product, it combines This’ Fat 2.0 made from olive oil, alongside its plant-based meat which uses pea and soya protein.

Retailing at £3.25, the streaky bacon has 17 kcal per rasher, is high in protein, low in fat with 88% less than the average meat equivalent, a good source of fibre as well as fortified with vitamin B12 and iron.

The new product also comes with a new pack format, specifically designed to showcase the bacon which uses a product meal shot and the 100% plant-based call out in green for added reassurance to shoppers.

“It’s taken 2 years of cutting-edge research and development to launch this. Not to mention the 1,000s of taste tests and inordinate number of grey hairs acquired,” This co-founder, Andy Shovel said.

“We couldn’t be happier with where we’ve landed. Our new streaky rashers can easily trick a meat-eater into thinking they’re pork bacon. They’re awesome.”

This news comes as the business became a B Corporation this month, making it the first UK-based meat alternative brand to achieve the certification.

Joining 5,500 B Corps across 58 countries and 158 industries, This is also one of only a handful globally in the alternative protein space to receive the certification.
