The discount grocer is currently the fastest growing supermarket in the UK with sales growing 20.9% in the 12 weeks to 4 September– the fastest rate of growth since October 2014.
The news comes as in the past year, it was revealed three in five Brits have shopped in Lidl as a result of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Lidl is also in the process of recruiting for warehouses, including for its Belvedere warehouse which is undergoing a total redevelopment.
“We’re incredibly proud of our colleagues across the country, whose hard work and loyalty mean that we are the fastest growing supermarket, with over 1.5 million more people shopping with us than last year,” Lidl GB chief HR officer Nan Gibson said.
“As our customer base continues to grow, and as we open more new stores and warehouses, we need more people to join team Lidl. Not only will new colleagues be the highest paid in the industry as a result of our newly increased rates, they also be part of an amazing team of people that are working to help make good food accessible to all households, at a time that is so needed.”
The move comes as the discount grocer pledged to sell 100% free range eggs by the end of 2024.
In a bid to reinforce its commitment to the welfare and conditions in which hens are housed, Lidl has become the first UK discount grocer to make the commitment.
