Iceland and The Food Warehouse has revealed it is shutting all its stores on Boxing Day, to give its colleagues a well-earned rest.

In a tweet, the managing director of the frozen food retailer, Richard Walker confirmed the store closures.

“We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families,” he said.

Last year, Aldi, M&S, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s all shut its doors on Boxing Day, with Morrisons closing its stores for the first time on 26 December.
The news comes as Walker recently said that scrapping the 45p tax rate was “always an odd priority”.
Speaking on Times Radio, Walker, who admits he is a ‘top rate tax-payer’, said he didn’t think the move was “a priority”.
“I look at the economy through the lens of my customers and they are really struggling at the moment. They need support, not the richest”, Walker said.
