Ex-Tesco CEO appointed as Greggs’ new chair

Former Tesco boss Matt Davies as been named as the new chair of Greggs.

Davies joins the board with immediate effect, and will be appointed as chair in November, when Ian Durant, the current chair steps down.

Davies was appointed chairman of Hobbycraft in 2018, having previously held the position of CEO of Tesco UK and Ireland.

Prior to the Big 4 grocer, he was CEO of Halfords from 2012 to 2015 and finance director and CEO from 2004 and 2012 of Pets at Home.

Davies also chaired the N Brown Group and was on the board of Dunelm Group between 2012 and 2015.

Commenting on his appointment, Davies said: “I’m really delighted to be taking on this role. Greggs is a great business and a brand that I have long admired.”

Durant added: “Greggs has undergone a transformation over the past decade and I am proud to have contributed to its achievements as chair.”

“Greggs has entered a new era, now under Roisin Currie’s leadership, and the business is in great shape with a clear strategy. I welcome Matt Davies as my successor as chair and wish him well.”
