Dobbies ditches Sainsbury’s for Waitrose foodhall partnership

Dobbies Garden Centre’s has launched a new partnership with Waitrose after resident grocery supplier Sainsbury’s pulled out of supply deals.

As a result of the partnership, Waitrose will now provide Dobbies customers with a range of high-quality food, grocery products and everyday essentials in over 50 garden centres across the UK.

The new partnership with Waitrose will launch in Edinburgh in July, with further locations added later this year.

Dobbies launched its new-style foodhall in July 2020 with Big 4 grocer Sainsbury’s, but is now replacing the supermarket giant with Waitrose.

“Waitrose and Dobbies share a commitment to great value, quality and sustainability,” Dobbies CEO Graeme Jenkins said.

“They are the natural partner for us as we look to build on the success of our foodhalls in recent years, which have become a popular part of our customer offer.”

Waitrose executive director James Bailey added: “With Dobbies we will be working with a partner that shares our values when it comes to quality and service, and this underlines our ambitions to bring Waitrose food and drink to even more people throughout the UK.

“It will take us into locations that are entirely new for us and build our presence in other areas where a Waitrose shop may not currently be conveniently accessible, despite strong demand for our products.”

Dobbies revealed it will also continue its existing partnerships with brands including Hotel Chocolat and Cook.
