Spar awards £100k to local organisations through its ‘Community Cashback’ scheme

Convenience group Spar has announced the winners of its ‘Community Cashback’ scheme, awarding 30 grants to local voluntary and community organisations who need it most.

The scheme, which first launched in April, saw consumers from across the UK applying for a grant on behalf of an organisation that they felt deserved funding.

With over 4,000 applications submitted for groups showing an exceptional contribution to their community, five have been chosen to receive the largest funding of £10,000.

The top winners include Bags Full of Love (which provides children entering foster care with new clothing and comfort items), Woodlanders Pre School (providing early year care and education to children) and Stoke and Staffordshire Downs Syndrome Social Group (offering children and adults with Downs Syndrome a safe and sociable place to meet).

Community Rescue Service (a volunteer based search and rescue across Northern Ireland) and Northumbria Blood Bikes (a voluntary organisation providing out of hours transport services to the NHS) will also benefit from the funding.

Other award winners received funds of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 as part of the ‘Community Cashback’ scheme.

“We have been really impressed by the number of applications received and delighted to be able to award thirty very worthy causes with a grant from the SPAR Community Cashback scheme,” Spar UK brand and marketing director, Suzanne Dover said.

“Our Spar stores around the UK believe in nurturing their neighbourhoods and supporting the communities they serve, and we are delighted to be able to supplement their local efforts with this national campaign.”

“Times are tough for charity and support groups who are looking to fundraise at the moment, and it is great that the £100,000 Community Cashback scheme can provide deserving local organisations with some extra financial help at this time.”
