Iceland’s Richard Walker honoured on Queen’s Birthday list

Iceland’s managing director Richard Walker has been awarded an OBE for services to business and environment in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

In a tweet, Walker expressed how “shocked” and “honoured” he was to be awarded an OBE, which he accepts on “behalf of the real business heroes: my 30,000 Iceland colleagues.”

The co-founder of Kiddiecare.com, which was wold to Big 4 grocer Morrisons, Scott Weavers-Wright OBE, was also amongst the influential people awarded a Queens Honour.

The news comes as Walker has claimed customers feeling the pinch of inflation are telling Iceland checkout staff to stop when they hit £40 before putting the rest of their shop back on the shelves.

The cost of living crisis has seen the prices of everyday essentials soar, with the price of a loaf of bread increasing from 89p to £1.10 and milk prices increasing “quite dramatically”.
