Issa brothers EG Group to offer 500 apprenticeships over 3 years

EG Group has announced it is creating opportunities for around 500 apprentices over the next three years.

The scheme will be offered across its Blackburn-based head office as well as with the group’s proprietary brands, which include Asda On the Move, Spar and Sainsbury’s On the Go.

Other brands include fast-food chain Leon and bakery Cooplands.

The apprenticeship placements will span across different disciplines and departments, including HR and payroll, finance, legal, surveying, insurance, data analytics and IT.

Apprentices will also have the opportunity to learn within food service, fuel, grocery and merchandise sector, which includes courses in retail management and hospitality management.

The group, which was co-founded by the new Asda owners Issa brothers, revealed about 200 apprentices are already working across EG Group’s estate, with a further 300 roles expected to be created in the next two years.

“We are very proud to be significantly extending apprenticeship opportunities across various areas of our business over the coming three years, following the success of the first cohort of apprentices last year,” EG Group head of learning and development Vincent O’Donovan said.

“As a business, we thrive on providing learning and development for colleagues and we are committed to building for the future and supporting individuals to gains skills and experience across the business.”

EG Group group operations director Ahmed Kazi added: “The wider apprenticeship programme has already helped the operations team to grow and develop.
“The scope of work in our team is quite broad and varied as it encompasses commercial areas such as facilities management, site services to global insurance.”
He concluded: “The apprenticeship programme is helping us to take operational excellence to the next level, as part of our efforts to equip colleagues with the skills of tomorrow.”
