Ocado Re:Imagined unveils “game-changing” tech

Ocado has unveiled new “game-changing” technology which it believes will be “one of the most significant steps forward in technology in Ocado’s history”.

Announced in a press conference earlier today, the innovations will underpin the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), helping the online grocer deliver orders faster and at a lower cost, offer more short delivery times and drive faster speed to market.

Described as “technological breakthroughs”, the innovations are expected to “reaffirm OSP as the fastest, most flexible, most sustainable and most cost-effective suite of solutions for operating online grocery”.

The latest evolution of the Ocado Smart Platform will include a new automated frameload system and on-grid robotic picks featuring the 600 Series bot – the world’s lightest and most efficient grocery fulfilment bot.

Other developments include the world’s first virtual distribution centre, Ocado Orbit, which will run alongside the Ocado Swift Router, enabling delivery of last-minute orders as well as larger, longer lead-time orders, all from the same van.

Finally, Ocado Flex will allow partners to use their own webshop and app solutions while using OSP.

“Uniquely developed for the demands of the grocery space by our dedicated technology and engineering teams, these latest innovations to OSP are the result of cutting-edge research and development, as well as the accrued experience and know-how in driving unmatched efficiency across the entire online grocery delivery space over the last 20 years of Ocado,” read a statement from the group.

It does not expect these initiatives to have a material impact on FY22 results.
