Lidl approved by Cruelty Free International

Lidl has revealed over 100 of its products have now been approved by Cruelty Free International under its Leaping Bunny cruelty free programme.

These products include Lidl’s own-brand household and cosmetics ranges which are available across the UK.

Cruelty Free International’s Leaping Bunny Programme is an internationally recognised gold standard in cruelty free beauty and is awarded to brands who adhere to globally applied criteria.

The news comes mid Veganuary, where customers pledge to eat and live a plant-based lifestyle which extends to cruelty-free products.

The Leaping Bunny falls within Lidl’s sustainability commitments as it rolled out its vegan food range Vemondo across the UK earlier this year.

“At Lidl GB, we are committed to sourcing products in a responsible and sustainable way, and we are delighted to announce that we have achieved the Leaping Bunny approval from Cruelty Free International on both our cosmetic and household ranges,” Lidl GB head of responsible sourcing and ethical trade Amali Bunter said.

“We recognise the importance of protecting animal welfare throughout all our supply chains and customers can now buy cruelty free products in all Lidl GB stores.”

To achieve the cruelty free standard, Lidl had to “forensically investigate” its entire supply, including raw materials and individual ingredients.

Since 2017, Leaping Bunny has seen a 190% increase in brands seeking approval, indicating a global consumer demand for cruelty-free products shaping retailer brands.

“We’re thrilled to be able to grant the Lidl GB ’s household and cosmetics ranges Leaping Bunny approval, making cruelty free Veganuary swaps this January both affordable and accessible across the country,” Cruelty Free International chief executive officer Michelle Thew said.

“Leaping Bunny approval is rigorous and take many months, and it’s no mean feat to do this for both cosmetics and household products at the same time! Congratulations to Lidl GB and welcome to the growing Leaping Bunny family.”
