Lidl recalls ‘lumpy, sour & smelly’ oat milk after viral TikTok

Lidl has recalled its own-brand oat milk after TikTok user Luna Martin’s viral video criticising the 89p product.

In a video that has been viewed 3.6 million times, Martin pours the milk on the street outside the discount supermarket, describing it as “lumpy, smelly and sour” and says it “shouldn’t be on sale”.

The 23-year-old started making videos about the milk back in August, after noticing the quality of the product had declined.

“It’s good milk and I’ve used it for years,” she said.

“I use four cartons every week and I had bought a big batch of it with the sell-by date of 2022, but I noticed when I opened it, it was full of lumps and really smelly.

“I thought it was just the one carton but tried a few more and they were all like that.”

After months of Luna going back and forth with the discount grocer , the product has officially been recalled.

“At Lidl, it is never our intention for a customer to be dissatisfied in any way and we work very closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products in our stores are of the highest possible quality,” a spokesman for Lidl told the BBC.

“Following customer feedback, we have recalled the affected batch and the product will be back in stores very soon.”
