Asda has unveiled a six-week trial of a new uniform for store staff, its first redesign in over 12 years.

The supermarket giant will see 2,600 employees across 12 stores trial the new look, which consists of ten different types of uniforms fit for the range of roles held across Asda.

Colleagues are expected to test the uniform by completing their everyday roles, with departments such George, pharmacy, drivers, and bakery taking part in the trial and sending their feedback on look and fit, comfort, wearability and washability.

The grocery retailer will then use this feedback to inform decisions on the final version of the official new uniform, which is currently set to launch in 2026.

The uniform trial comes amid existing feedback already collated by Asda, which includes the testing of different fabric to make clothing more breathable, and the additional of natural cotton to aid colleagues experiencing peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms.

Asda chief people and corporate affairs officer Hayley Tatum said: “We’ve put our colleagues at the heart of this trial, enlisting their support to ensure the uniform not only meets their needs, but that they are proud to wear. We’re looking forward to hearing their thoughts in the coming weeks and using this insight to shape the final version of the uniform.”

The new uniform comes as one of Asda’ latest moves to improve conditions for store colleagues. Last month, the grocer rolled out the UK’s largest workplace savings initiatives for its 150,000 employees.

Trousers that are actually fit a woman’s shape would be nice, instead of generic ones produced to fit anyone, men basically!
Combined with yucky polyester polo shirts that don’t come clean when washed.
Not holding my breath on actually getting any new uniform as it generally takes 3 months just to get one item replaced!
