Waitrose is bringing back its free hot drinks offer for loyalty card owners as the cost-of-living crisis continues to intensify.
The grocer originally scrapped the scheme two years ago but is now restoring the benefit in all 331 stores across the UK from 7 November, in a bid to attract customers back in-store.
The premium supermarket has seen a 5% drop in like-for-like sales to £3.6 billion in September, with discounters Aldi and Lidl soaring in popularity as shoppers look for the best deals to save cash.
Wairose shoppers will be able to claim a free Americano, latte, cappuccino or tea once a day when they make a purchase.
The retailer also said its loyalty cardholders would now also be getting better free coffee, upgrading to premium coffee beans as it partners with coffee chain Caffè Nero, which will be supplying the coffee beans.
Both myWaitrose and Caffè Nero App users will be able to receive and use deals in branches of each chain.
Any consumers that are not part of the myWaitrose scheme will still be able to purchase tea from £2.25 and coffees from £2.35.
“Our customers loved the myWaitrose free coffee offer, so we’re really excited to bring it back, with premium beans from The Nero Roasting Company,” commercial director at Waitrose, Charlotte Di Cello said.

It looks too little, too late to prevent further turnover losses.
