Morrisons harnessing AI-powered self-checkouts to combat mis-scans
Morrisons plans to introduce vision-based AI technology, as it works to ensure items have been scanned correctly at self-checkouts.
The supermarket has signed a long-term partnership with retail technology firm Everseen, following a successful trial of its Evercheck platform.
The system uses real-time computer vision to identify items that may not have been scanned correctly and gives customers on-screen prompts to resolve the issue themselves.
Morrisons said the technology would help keep queues moving, reduce the need for staff intervention and allow colleagues to focus more time on customer service.
Morrisons store support office director Francesca Bezoari explained: “Our new partnership with Everseen enables us to provide the fast and seamless checkout experience our customers want, while simultaneously equipping our colleagues to maintain the exceptional service that Morrisons is known for.”

The initial rollout will cover up to 200 UK stores, and integrate with the grocer’s existing checkout systems.
Everseen chief executive Joe White added: “The best AI solutions deliver measurable results without compromising the customer experience.
“Our Vision AI platform enables Morrisons to improve its satisfaction scores, proving that operational performance and customer service aren’t competing priorities.”
At the end of July, Morrisons rolled out caper smart trolleys to the supermarket’s Preston store, marking Instacart’s first UK retail partnership for its AI-powered smart trolley.
Morrisons joins Deliveroo, Lidl and Asda in the shortlist for Grocer of the Year at the newly elevated RG Retail Excellence Awards 2026.
