Lidl lifts entry pay again marking £70m pay investment in 2 years
Lidl GB will raise entry-level hourly pay to £13.00 nationwide from 1 September, marking its fifth pay increase in two years.
The uplift, which takes the discounter’s total investment in wages to more than £70m over the period, will see pay rise from £12.75 to £13.00 outside London, reaching £13.95 with length of service.
Meanwhile, in the capital, rates will move from £14.00 to £14.35, climbing to £14.65 for longer-serving staff.
The September uplift applies to customer assistants, shift managers, warehouse operatives and cleaners, who also benefit from a 10% in-store discount and other benefits.

The changes keep Lidl ahead of both the real living wage and London living wage, cementing its position as one of the UK’s highest-paying supermarkets for store and warehouse roles.
Chief People Officer Stephanie Rogers credited the retailer’s “fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket” status to the efforts of frontline teams, adding: “In recognition of their contribution, we continue to ensure we are market leading on pay.”
“Over the last two years, we’ve held our spot as the fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket.
“This continued success is made possible because of the ongoing efforts of our colleagues, including Customer Assistants, Shift Managers, Warehouse Operatives and Cleaners, whose commitment is greatly appreciated. In recognition of their contribution, we continue to ensure we are market leading on pay.”
The move comes mere weeks after Aldi revealed it was set to become the first UK supermarket to pay its store assistants at least £13.00 an hour nationally, as it reaffirms its pledge to “never be beaten on pay”.
