Tesco predicts surge in lunchbox staples’ sales over Bank holiday

Tesco forecasted a surge in demand for lunchbox essentials over the Bank holiday this weekend as families prepare for the back-to-school season.

The supermarket retailer has launched a 4-for-3 promotion which will run in large stores and online for over 110 lunchbox items to help families save on essentials.

Running from now until 15 September, Tesco will run the deal across a wide range of items, including cheese snacks, kids’ yoghurts, cooked meats, snack bars an bottles of Evian Kids mineral water multipacks.

Additionally, this is expected to be the busiest school uniform shopping season of the year for shoppers at Tesco.

The retailer has already reported a 32 per cent increase in Greek yoghurt sales compared to last year.

In particular, the supermarket’s Finest Greek Yoghurt has experienced a standout performance, with volume sales surging by 181 per cent over the last two years.

Tesco predicted that sales of stationery could increase by 16 per cent compared to last year.

Additionally, the sales of children’s yoghurts and drinks are predicted to rise to 42 per cent, while berries and currants are forecasted to grow by 14 per cent year-on-year.

Sarah-Jane Gregory, buying manager for Yoghurt at Tesco, said: “This year’s Bank holiday falls just before many children head back to school, so we’re expecting lots of families to spend the weekend getting ready for the new term and stocking up on lunchbox favourites.

“We’re forecasting particularly strong demand for products such as kids’ yoghurts, drinks and berries as parents look for convenient options for breakfast, lunchboxes and after-school snacks.”
