Adagio Teas experienced a surge in iced tea sales in May and June, which was driven by the UK heatwaves.

The premium tea brand’s sales of iced tea increased by 80 per cent in April, while June’s sales went up by 83 per cent compared to the previous month.

May’s iced tea performance was ahead of the average for the business, which normally sees a steep rise in June as a result of the improved summer weather.

With the previous consistent high temperatures, the business saw its iced tea sales reach sell-out points, particularly for its wild strawberry, berry blast and peach oolong variants.

Stepas Parulis, head of UK and EU operations for Adagio Teas, said: “The heatwaves are definitely having an impact on the sales of our iced tea products. May was a good month for our iced tea sales, which make up a fraction of our overall tea sales.

“June has seen unprecedented demand for our iced tea products to the extent we are having to restock certain varieties.

“We’re only just moving into the summer months, but if this trend continues, I would expect to see record sales figures this year.”

Adagio Teas expanded into the iced tea sector in 2016 and has experienced a steady growth of its products over the past decade as it introduced new fruit options to its range.

The company aims to differentiate itself from competitors by using pouches which contain natural leaves and fruit as opposed to the more common powder options.
