Morrisons data and analytics director Peter Laflin exits after nearly seven years

News

Morrisons director of data and analytics Peter Laflin is leaving the supermarket after almost seven years with the business.

Laflin confirmed his departure in a LinkedIn post, saying his “journey with Morrisons” was coming to a close after six and a half years.

He did not reveal his next role, but said he would share his plans for the autumn at a later date.

During his time at Morrisons, Laflin helped lead a series of data, AI and technology initiatives, including the launch of MoreViu and work to unlock real-time data for colleagues and customers.

He also said he had helped lay the foundations for the supermarket’s future use of artificial intelligence.

“There are so many highlights from my time with the business, but helping to launch MoreViu, unlocking real-time data for our colleagues and customers, and laying the foundations for the future use of AI are definitely right up there,” Laflin said.

He added that he had been “privileged” to lead his team and was proud to have played a role in the careers of data, AI and technology professionals at Morrisons.

“Together, we’ve successfully navigated a landscape where technologies, concepts and cultures have moved at an ever accelerating pace,” he said.

Laflin said he had learned from colleagues “from the shop floor to the boardroom” and was grateful for the opportunity to develop as a leader alongside “exceptional retail professionals”.

He said he would take the summer to spend time with family, enjoy sport and pursue long-held passion projects.

Laflin added that the break would also give him time to think more deeply about neurodivergent leadership and volunteer with local charities.

Morrisons has been building its use of data across the business as supermarkets look to sharpen decision-making and unlock efficiencies in an increasingly competitive grocery market.
