Maldon Salt expands flavoured sea salt range with new £2 tubs
Maldon Salt is launching new 50g tub formats for three of its premium flavoured sea salts.
The smaller packs will be available for its Garlic Sea Salt Flakes, Chilli Sea Salt Flakes and Pepper Sea Salt Flakes, with listings rolling out across Waitrose, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s from late May, followed by Co-op in July.
The resealable and fully recyclable tubs will retail at £2 and have been designed to offer shoppers a more convenient way to try the brand’s flavoured salts.
Maldon said the move follows the success of its Pepper Sea Salt, which launched in the 50g tub format in November last year. The brand is now extending the packaging to its Garlic and Chilli variants after consumer research found shoppers favour resealable and easy-to-store formats.
The new tubs have been launched ahead of the summer season, with Maldon positioning them as a portable option for picnics, barbecues and trips away, as well as everyday cooking.
Each pack features Maldon’s geometric design, with grey and green packaging for Garlic, orange and red for Chilli, and pink for Pepper.
The Garlic Sea Salt blends Maldon’s sea salt flakes with wild and roasted garlic, while the Chilli Sea Salt combines Aleppo pepper and bird’s eye chillies. The Pepper Sea Salt includes Tellicherry and pink peppercorns.
All three 50g tubs will launch in Waitrose from late May. The Garlic Sea Salt tub will also be stocked in Morrisons from late May, where the Pepper Sea Salt tub is already listed.
The Pepper Sea Salt tub will launch in Sainsbury’s from late May and Co-op from late July.
Maldon Salt product portfolio manager Simon James said the smaller format had been developed to tap into the growing “fancy pantry” trend, as shoppers upgrade store cupboard staples with more premium ingredients.
“We are passionate about encouraging consumers to experiment in the kitchen,” he said.
“Our smaller packs support this trial and experimentation in home cooking and we are excited to unveil this new format for our much loved, premium flavoured salts.”
