Co-op has announced a 25% in-store discount as part of a thank-you initiative for its 6.5 million members, following the cyber attacks that affected its operations during the spring.

The retailer confirmed that it is headed towards full recovery at its 2,300 store portfolio, also resuming its marketing initiatives and summer advertising campaigns.

Shoppers will be able to save £10 on £40 purchases in the store, an offer exclusively available to existing and new members.

The discount is part of its business strategy to drive growth in its nationwide membership programme from its current 6.5 million to 8 million by 2030.

Co-op Food managing director Matt Hood said: “I’m very proud that, thanks to the work of our colleagues, we are very near to making a full and complete recovery from the recent cyber-attack on our Co-op, and I’m delighted to see our stores looking back to normal and being able to serve our shoppers and communities.

“We are so grateful to our member-owners for their support and patience with us during what was a very difficult time and hope this gesture of appreciation goes a little way to showing them our thanks, with more value rewards to come over the summer.”

The discount is set to roll out for one week from 18 June, marking the beginning of summer sales at Co-op.

This news comes on the heels of the convenience store’s announcement that operations significantly improved after its IT systems were closed down amid a malicious access attack.

Shirine Khoury-Haq, CEO of Co-op previously said: “While there is still work to do to unwind the operational and technical impacts of the actions we had to take to block the criminals, our systems are now stable, our Food stores again have more of the products our customers want and all our businesses are continuing to serve our member-owners.”
