Sainsbury’s taps into ‘girl dinner’ TikTok trend with sharing plates
Sainsbury’s is tapping into the viral ‘girl dinner’ TikTok trend with the launch of new summer sharing plates.
The supermarket giant has unveiled a range of 30 new hot and cold Taste the Difference products inspired by Mediterranean and global cuisines.
Starting from £3.50 and available in-store and online now, the range features elevated ‘picky bits’, marinated cheeses, dips, grilled vegetables and grains, pulses and salads.
Sainsbury’s new range comes as the term ‘girl dinner’, which sees social media users sharing their easy-to-make snack-based solo dinners, continues to trend online.
According to the grocer, Google searches show a 130% increase in the term since the start of the month, while the hashtag #girldinner has over 332,000 dedicated videos on TikTok to date.

Following the launch of the summer sharing plates, one user has described the relevant aisle at Sainsbury’s as the “new girl dinner section”, according to the retailer.
Sainsbury’s director of own brand innovation Claire Hughes said: “We’re delighted to unveil our new Taste the Difference Sharing Plates range, designed to be mixed and matched – with delicious flavours that pack a punch.
“Whether you’re enjoying a dinner for one, hosting a summer’s evening get together or enjoying picnics with friends and family our range has something for every occasion at great value.”
A variety of the plates will be available on a three for £8 Deli Deal with Nectar Prices, including Slow Cooked Pork Belly with Mojo Rojo Style Sauce, Spanish Tortilla with Flaked Pimenton Del La Vera, Loaded Houmous with Crumbled Falafel, Bacon Wrapped Halloumi Sticks with Hot Honey Drizzle, and Giant Butter Beans.
