Several Tesco stores have been hit with banana shortages in recent days.

Shoppers have taken to social media with images of empty shelves at some of the supermarket giant’s stores, with signs noting that bananas were “out of stock”, Sky News reported.

One X (formerly Twitter) user posted a photo of a sign that read: “Due to shipment delays we have no bananas.”

Another sign at store in Osterley, West London, said the produce item was unavailable due to “bad weather conditions”.

It continued: “We are working hard with our suppliers to refill our shelves.”

Sky News reported that stores in Maidstone, the Isle of Sheppey, London and Bournemouth were experiencing the banana shortages. However, it is not clear of the full extent of stores affected.

Tesco’s website is also currently showing that its ‘Small Bananas 6 Pack’ and ‘Ripe Bananas 5 Pack’ products are out of stock.

Tesco has been contacted for comment.

Tells you not very much unless we know why there is a shortage, is it just Tesco, or more widespread? Supply issue or just a distribution issue?

Well there are bananas but not yet ripe. I have been to four different supermarkets they all have unripe bananas.
Madeira island is a big producer of bananas I don’t understand why the UK do not buy from there. They are smaller but very sweet and tasty. Shame that they said thar Madeira island cannot export due to the length of the bananas.
