BP anticipates it will sell 1.6 million hot drinks and 750,000 pastries across its 300 company owned stores across the UK in the run up to Christmas Day.

Across baked goods specifically, the roadside retailer is estimating the sale of 300,000 sweet pastries and 200,000 of its award-winning bacon and cheese turnovers.

Data also indicates that 100,000 pigs in blankets will be sold in the build up to the big day, alongside 10,000 bottles of mulled wine and one million bags of Christmas sweets and chocolate, including M&S’ Christmas Percy Pigs, chocolate coins and popping disco balls.

Sales of bottles of Baileys are also expected to see a 1,000% uplift compared to a normal week.

Across non-food items, BP is expecting to sell over 100,000 rolls of wrapping paper and Christmas cards, and 150,000 festive gifting tins, alongside a predicted 1,300% uplift in battery sales.

As more drivers switch to electric cards, the demand for EV charging is also set to soar and in the run up to Christmas, the forecourt retailer expects to deliver around 3.7 million kWh through its EV chargers – enough power to cook over 830,000 Christmas turkeys.

BP vice president of mobility and convenience retail UK Jo Hayward said: “Christmas Eve is set to be our busiest day for shop sales over the festive period.

“With our convenient network of BP M&S locations, customers can recharge with a caffeine kick, pick up last minute gifts or grab forgotten items for Christmas dinner while also filling up or charging their vehicles.”
