Lidl has unveiled its take on Coca-Cola’s iconic Christmas truck with its own red truck which will tour the UK this winter.

The discounter’s 20-metre, 15-tonne festive truck will be wrapped in its own-brand Freeway cola label and will visit nine cities between 14 November and 1 December for its first tour, the Independent reported.

The tongue-in-cheek trucks will see staff give away over 2,000 present boxes containing products from Lidl’s ‘middle aisle’ on a first come, first served basis.

The supermarket will also give some shoppers with £100 off food shops and will give away festive food from the truck.

The nine cities where the truck will visit include Dundee, Harrogate, Hull, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Wrexham, Luton, Bournemouth and Southampton.

Lidl GB marketing director Joanna Gomer said: “Giving back to the communities we serve is really important to us and our exciting new Freeway truck allows us to get right into the heart of them this year.

“By touring nine stops across the country, we’ll be using our giant truck to hand out present boxes, give away festive food shops and grant wishes that will make dreams come true. Look out for the Freeway truck on its tour and most importantly, come join the fun.”

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola is set to release the schedule for its Christmas truck later this month.

It comes as last month, Lidl launched its 2024 Christmas advert with a focus on giving to highlight the discounter’s festive toy bank partnership with Neighbourly.

From 1 November, customers can drop off new and unopened toys, games, books, puzzles, and arts and crafts at any Lidl store across the country, which will then be distributed locally to children of all ages through the partner charity network.

The discount grocer has also pledged £125,000 in grants to support charity partners hosting festive events across the country as part of its festive charity campaign.
